“It’s the heart that really does the healing.”

Ora Ruggles, an OT Pioneer

Occupational Therapy - as relatively misunderstood as it is - offers a whole-person perspective on lasting change for your health and well-being. Occupational Therapists enable individuals, groups, or communities to participate in meaningful occupations (or the activities you do to “occupy” your time) through holistic, evidence-based practice. Occupations are not only what we do (i.e. self-care, work, exercise), but how we experience being a human and belonging in this world.

The Occupational Therapy process is rooted in:

  • Authentic rapport building, understanding your unique story, and consistent collaboration

  • Thorough assessment of your values, beliefs, habits & routines, context & environment, and goals to hone your strengths and motivation

  • Intervention founded on empowering you to take charge of designing a life that promotes overall health and wellness

  • Consistent follow-up and problem-solving to reach your most meaningful outcomes

To be straightforward, occupational therapists are masters in synthesizing the science behind the body & brain and the systems & contexts of our clients. We use daily life activities as the therapy to bolster the strengths of the client & adapt environments to enable independence.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy can look like:

  • Routine and lifestyle management, from self-care to social connection

  • Evaluation of your home’s functionality and ergonomics

  • Whole-body & mind support to improve grades, mood, and enjoyment of life

  • Life skills, such as:

    • physical, spiritual, and sexual health

    • life management and executive functioning

    • establishing a career

    • financial management

What is Yoga?

A non-denominational & wholly accessible philosophical framework, Yoga is rooted in the “joining” or “yoking” of our physical, mental, sensorial, and spiritual bodies in attempt to reveal and live one’s Sovereignty, and in turn, contribute to our collective autonomy. Western society has attributed yoga to solely it’s physical practice and fitness benefits, such as increasing flexibility or sweating it out in a hot room; however, Yoga has deep historical roots and the physical movement, or āsana, is just one type of medium to experience and practice the spiritual transformation.

The practice of Yoga can take many forms, but Be Wellness loves the Vinyasa & Hatha style of movement to unite breath, body, mind. Ultimately, the philosophical approach grounds our vision @ Be Wellness to maintain a loving & social justice oriented philosophy.

Occupational Therapy: Theory & Practice

The occupational therapy process of holistic, whole-person-centered assessment, collaboration, and intervention for individuals who have trouble maintaining independent function in their daily life is threaded through all Be Wellness services. Since occupational therapists have expertise in disability and loss of function across the lifespan, Be Wellness services are accessible for those who have new or pre-existing conditions, neurodivergence, mobility or pain issues, or for navigating aging & bodily/mental changes.

Yoga: Philosophy & Āsana

Yoga, though most commonly known for it’s stretchy & sometimes vigorous physical practice (known as āsana), is actually a non-denominational philosophical framework that engages the mind-body-spirit to reveal one’s Higher Self and honor it through daily actions & practices. Be Wellness celebrates the tradition of Yoga by incorporating elements of it’s 8-Limb Path and mindfulness, or the “quieting of the mind,” to strengthen one’s connection to Self. Exploring a deeper meaning and intention behind our daily life is important for longevity of motivation & purpose. All this is embedded in physical movement, or āsana, to embody the learnings.
